Campfire is a web-based group chat tool that lets you set up password-protected chat rooms. Use it to chat, collaborate, file share and make decisions. You can browse previous chats by person, room, or date. Up to 100 people can chat at once on the ‘Max’ plan at $99 per month. However there are cheaper plans and you can have a free plan where just 4 people can chat.
Here are some ways the developers suggest you can use it:
Keep distributed teams connected
We built Campfire because we’re a distributed company. We have people in four cities. Campfire makes it a breeze to work “together” in real-time even though we’re thousands of miles apart.
A chat room for an event or meeting
Open a room for an event and let everyone in the audience share notes, debate the topic, post links to reference materials, and share their thoughts in real-time. The speaker on the stage isn’t the only one with something to say.
Discuss an image in real time
Campfire makes it simple to upload an image (gif, jpg, png, or pdf) and discuss it in real-time. When someone uploads an image (web site mockup, photograph, logo, sketch, etc), everyone in the chat sees it instantly. Get people’s opinions on the record with Campfire.
Or take a tour – video and/or screen shots.
